Police investigating officer-involved shooting in Merced

News

An investigation is underway into an officer-involved shooting in the city of Merced early Saturday morning.

The shooting occurred around 12:20 a.m. Merced police say the Gang Violence Suppression Unit made a traffic stop on a car in the area of East Alexander Avenue and Marie Court.

Merced police said the car pulled over and three suspects ran from the car. During the pursuit of the suspects, an officer-involved shooting occurred.

One suspect, who was armed with a gun, was struck in the upper torso and is being treated at a hospital, police say.

Police said the two other suspects who ran from the car are still outstanding.

The officers involved in the shooting incident were not injured and are on Paid Administrative Leave.
