Police Investigate 19th Homicide in Fresno This Year


FRESNO, Calif. — A man has been killed in a drive-by shooting in Central Fresno. It happened on Thesta and Lewis, right next to the Lewis market on Monday at 5:30 p.m. 

Police are now searching for those responsible. 

“I heard boom boom boom. It was real loud,” said Michael, resident. 

Michael lives right next to where the shooting occurred, he heard the whole crime unfold from his home. 

“It is just getting worse every day,” said Michael, neighbor. 

He watched as policed filled his Central Fresno neighborhood, laid out evidence markers and rolled out caution tape.

This after police say they received a call of the shooting on Thesta and Lewis, at 5:30 p.m. on Monday night.
“It appears to be a drive-by shooting,” said Lt. Steve Card. 

Police said a Hispanic man in his 20’s was killed right next to the Lewis market.

Police said after he was shot, he started running down this alley way to get away but then collapsed. Police said the man was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

Michael said with July 4th nearing, he thought his neighbors were celebrating early. 

“I thought it was fire crackers. I didn’t think they were gun shots,” said Michael. 

He said his neighborhood is no stranger to this kind of crime and is begging for these senseless acts to stop.

“It makes me kind of mad because they just going around shooting people for no reason,” said Michael. 

Police are still investigating if this is a gang related shooting. 

This is the 19th murder in Fresno this year. Police said there were 35 homicides this time last year.
