Man armed with shotgun arrested after attempted carjacking, police say

News

VISALIA, California – Visalia police said they got a call early Sunday morning of an attempted carjacking at the intersection of Giddings and Mary in the city of Visalia.

The victim said he was approaching a stop sign when a man jumped out from behind a street light pole, pointed a shotgun at him, and demanded that he exit his vehicle.

Police said the victim was able to drive away from the scene and contact the police department.

While officers were still responding, a second caller said that the same suspect was allegedly knocking on their front door and holding a shotgun.

Officers arrived on scene and took the suspect, later identified as Paul Nichols, into custody without incident.

The shotgun was retrieved at the front door of the second reporting party.

Nichols was booked into the Tulare County Pre-Trial Facility on the listed charges.

There were no injuries during this incident.
