Orange Cove man killed in Sunday shooting identified

The man killed in a shooting in Orange Cove on Sunday afternoon has been identified.

Around 5:00 p.m., officers in the area of Anchor Avenue and G Street when they heard gunshots being fired, the Orange Cove Police Department said.

The officers responded around the corner to Orange Cove Quick Stop, located on Park Boulevard between Anchor Avenue and 12th Street.

In the parking lot, they found Anthony Valdivia, 23, suffering from a gunshot wound. An ambulance transported Valdivia to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno where he later died.

Witnesses told officers that multiple people in a dark colored passenger car were responsible for the shooting and had fled the scene driving east on Park Boulevard, police said.

No motive has been determined, and no arrests have been made. It is unknown if the shooting is gang-related.
