The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an officer involved shooting that involves a Visalia Police officer.

According to authorities, the police officer shot a suspect in the area of East Delta and Norman Court. The officer was reportedly responding to a domestic dispute at around 7:30 A.M.

According to Visalia Police, a man in his 50s exited the home with a knife in his hand, when officers arrived. Officers, according to police, asked the man to drop the knife several times, but the man did not. The man, according to police, was still walking towards police, and the officer reportedly opened fire, hitting the suspect in his torso several times.

“that suspect has since been transported to the kawea delta district hospital where he’s receiving treatment.” said Sgt. Damon Maurice with Visalia Police.

The Tulare County Sheriff’s office was called out to assist, and the officer involved in the shooting has been put on leave.
