The Fresno Chaffee Zoo has a new baby orangutan!

The male orangutan was born on November 5, and he made his exhibit debut today.

Zoo guests visiting the newborn orangutan can help choose his name.

Zoo officials say guests can purchase $1 tokens at the admission booth and select their favorite name by dropping tokens into the voting device at the orangutan exhibit.

All the proceeds will go towards enrichment for the Zoo’s orangutans.

The naming contest will run until November 30. The winning name will be announced on December 1st.

The name options are:

1. Kadek (Kay-deck)- “Little Brother” – a name traditionally given to the second sibling.

2. Hantu (Hahn-too) – “Ghost” – Malay folklore often refers to orangutans as “ghosts of the forest.”

3. Vikal (Vick-all) – “Twilight, Evening” – He was born in the twilight hours of the night.
