New Clovis Police Chief sworn into office

There’s a new chief in Clovis. Police Chief Curt Flemming was sworn into office. He replaces the now retired Matt Basgall.

The new chief has a plan in place to take police protection in Clovis to the next level.

The 43-year-old chief has been preparing for this moment. He received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in criminology from Fresno State. He served as a Fresno Police Officer in 1999, and transferred to the Clovis Police Department in 2006 where he was appointed to corporal, sergeant, lieutenant, and captain.

Chief Flemming says he expects to make small tweaks to the department, and expand technology to make his staff of more than 200 more efficient. He hopes to carry on the legacy set by his predecessors. “We’ve got a great department. Great bunch of officers and support staff and I’m looking forward into taking us into the next phase of our department’s history really,” Chief Flemming says.

The chief’s wife and young son pinned his uniform. They were joined by many of the chief’s family and friends who are excited about the next legacy to be created in Clovis.
