The Costco on Ashlan and Peach avenues has officially closed its doors today at 4 p.m.
Now, employees are gearing up for the new one near Shaw and Clovis avenues to open up.
James Harris is the General Manager for the new Costco Wholesale. He said this new location is larger than the old one.
“Ultimately 20 thousand square feet bigger our gas station has 30 pumps opposed to 12 pumps, we have self check out, a lot of new exciting things,” said Harris.
Harris said among the other exciting changes: a larger parking lot with 200 more spaces for their members and six self check out stations.
“Conducive to our members in every aspect,” said Harris. “You know, that older location we grew out of it.”
According to Andy Haussler, the Community and Economic Development Director for the City of Clovis, Costco worked closely with the city of Clovis.
“So, this is really a team effort,” said Haussler. “Our planning and development services department, our fire department, our public utilities department, and administration came alongside Costco and figured out how to make it all happen with them to meet the timelines they had.”
Haussler said Costco worked with the city of Clovis to install three new traffic lights to alleviate traffic.
Some Costco regulars like Danny Som are excited for the new store.
Som said a larger store means more things to buy.
“Since it’s bigger I believe it will be more convenient since the store will hold more products and with more products more people will shop there,” said Som.
While other shoppers like Jose Ramirez will be dreading the longer commute to the new location.
“A little bit sad because I live around here,” said Ramirez.
The new Costco will open its doors tomorrow morning July 18th at 8 a.m.
