NASA spacecraft reaches most distant target in history

PICTURE FROM SPACE: Take a look at Ultima Thule. NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft flew past it on New Year’s Day.  Located 4 billion miles from the Sun, NASA says Ultima Thule is the most distant object ever visited by a spacecraft.  This picture is a composite of two images taken by New Horizons’ high-resolution Long-Range Reconnaissance Imager as the spacecraft approached Ultima Thule. Scientists say Ultima Thule appears to be shaped like a bowling pin or it could be two objects orbiting each other.
