Murder victim leaves behind 5 kids, widow says killing needs to stop

Recent violence has the Fresno Police Department on high alert deploying additional officers to help patrol southwest Fresno. Fifty additional officers are helping to patrol streets in southwest Fresno every night this weekend. The wife of Fresno’s latest murder victim says the killing has to stop.

Angelica Rangel’s husband Juan was killed in a shooting Thursday night near Inyo and C Street. Her five children lost a father, their oldest child just nine-years-old.

“It’s not right somebody took a life from my kids. They’re little, like there needs to be justice,” said Angelica.

That desire for justice has emotions running high in southwest Fresno. Fifty additional police officers are now helping to patrol the area trying to keep the peace

“Not only are we trying to prevent additional shootings, or additional victims within those gangs, but the innocent victims who get caught in the crossfire,” said Lt. Jennifer Horsford of the Fresno Police Department.

An arrest was made in Juan Rangel’s murder. 18- year-old Eliseo Orozco was taken into custody, but an arrest will not prevent a lifetime of sorrow for Rangel’s widow and kids. Angelica says the senseless violence needs to stop.

“It’s not fair and these people doing these killings they don’t think about the families, but the steps that the cops are taking I like that,” said Angelica.

As part of the extra patrols I’m told officers are talking with people in neighborhoods to try to find out what is fueling the recent violence. The additional officers will be in southwest Fresno throughout the weekend.
