Modesto police chase suspect crashes into gathering new taco truck, killing two fathers of four

A high-speed chase in Modesto turns deadly after the suspect’s vehicle slams into people eating near a taco truck.

Two innocent people, both fathers of four were killed. Pedro Gil, 31, and Melchor Leyva, 32 died. The chase started after a Modesto officer tried to pull over a stolen vehicle, but they instead sped off.

Police say the suspects inside that vehicle fired multiple shots at the officer during the chase, then hopped a curb crashing into a gathering of people eating at a taco truck.

“He was a good man, he was a family man, this is one of his daughters, he was a great, great father,” said Gil’s sister.

Two Bay area suspect have been charged in the case.
