With 4th of July celebrations well underway, thousands of people are spending the long weekend at Millerton Lake.
The lake is at 100% water capacity making for a fun and busy weekend ahead.
“We’re going to be full all four days,” said Steve Barber, Supervising Ranger of California State Parks Millerton Lake State Recreation Area. “We’re going to have quite a few visitors out here.”
At least 25,000 visitors are expected and there’s a whole lot to do.
Millerton Lake Rentals has jet skis, boats and kayaks you can use.
“We are busy,” said Larry Calandra, Owner of Millerton Marina/Millerton Lake Rentals. “I think we have a total of about 30 watercraft out on the water. We also have paddleboards, wakeboards and things like that. The watersports toys are almost sold out. ”
The water is ideal too.
“It’s amazing,” said Dax Maciel of Fresno. “It’s crazy how much the water has risen this year as opposed to last year. This year we can dock our boat right in front of us. 10 feet in front of the campsite.”
“With the water being as high as it is right now our real estate right now is at a minimum,” Barber added.
The parking lot is packed.
The North Shore Campgrounds in Madera County are full for the holiday weekend with car after car lining up and waiting to get to the gate.
Extra lifeguards are also on duty for the surge of visitors.
“We have about 20 seasonal lifeguards that will be working this weekend,” Barber said.
State Parks says about 1,000 boats are expected to launch over the four-day weekend.
It’s a relaxing way to celebrate our freedom paired with a full lake and gorgeous weather.
“Everybody have a great 4th of July and stay safe,” Calandra said.
“We’re going to have a good time,” Johnson concluded.
Keep in mind that it’s $12 per car and $19 per boat to enter the lake.
