Mexican Consulate opens Defense Center

President Trump’s stance on immigration has the Mexican government taking action.

In every state across the nation Mexican consulates opened a ‘Centro de Defensoria’ or Center of Defense.

This simply means for mexicans here in the Valley who find themselves in a legal battle with the American government because of their immigration status, the Mexican Consulate will assist them in the fight.

“It’s great for the people and great for the community,” said Carlos Millan in Spanish, a Mexican Citizen.

Millan says the President’s recent Executive Orders and remarks towards his country have many people he knows in fear.

That’s why he’s glad the consulate is offering help.

“There is fear, we all have family that is affected by this one way or another and will need these services,” said Millan.

Mexican Consul David Preciado says the Immigration Rights Defense Center is connected to dozens of local organizations including law enforcement to offer assistance to its Mexican Citizens.

“We wanted to have this united front for our community,” said Preciado. ” We want to be ready because sometimes our people don’t know who to call or what to do and we want to make sure they have all the right information.”

Lazaro Salazar is one of the lawyers on the immigration defense team.

He says one thing he can’t stress enough is even as an undocumented persons have rights.

“They have a right to remain in the United States, they have a right to present defense in front of a judge and they have a right to an attorney,” said Salazar.

The services offered at the center are completely free.

It also has a 24 hour hotline Mexican citizens in need.

The number is 559-269-3026.
