Terry’s House is a place where families can stay while their loved ones are receiving care at Community Regional Medical Center. The house is funded solely on donations and volunteers. This week’s Healthcare Hero is a Deli Delicious franchise owner who devotes time and food to Terry’s House once a month.
Eric Sha has been volunteering for almost two years. He began coming with the men’s group from the Korean Presbyterian Church in Fresno. They cook and serve dinner meals every month. Then, Eric opened the Deli Delicious across the street from Community Regional Medical Center and felt compelled to give even more. He delivers fresh sandwich platters to the families every month. His donation helps to feed around 40 to 60 people.
“I felt like it just made sense, just support in little ways. I think as a food operator, supporting food, so being right down the street I was more than happy to just donate food to them for certain lunches… and it just makes me want to do more to be honest. Being recognized for something like this encourages me to just do more. And I think not only with Terry’s House, but being planted in this Downtown community. I’m striving to make a difference, you know? One food platter at a time,” shared Eric.
Whitney Horn is the volunteer coordinator at Terry’s House. She said, “We wouldn’t be able to do it without him. Those families appreciate the love and support with this food and engaging and meaningful conversations, and it’s just a good way to relax, recharge, and have a really good start to the rest of their day after they’ve been nourished with food from Deli Delicious.”
