Medical Ministries International Prepares for a Life-Saving Shipment to Armenia

It may not look like it outside.   But life-saving work is going on inside a nondescript office in Clovis.   Sorting, checking and packing hundreds of medical supplies, un-needed at local hospitals, but of desperate need at hospitals and clinics worldwide.
Retired nurse Carol Saul volunteers for Medical Ministries International, a local non-profit that sends free medical supplies and equipment to countries in need.  ” It’s kind of like a puzzle really to look things up, find out what it is.  And I feel good about helping other countries with stuff that’s just going to be thrown away,” says Saul. 18 countries have received these life-saving gifts.  Armenia will be next.
Retired Nurse Tom Stoeckel and his wife founded M-M-I 20 years ago after visiting a medical clinic in Lithuania .  He saw the need for help in countries without the financial means to get it.  And he also knew local hospitals had plenty of excess  — with 3,000 tons of usable medical supplies thrown in U.S. Landfills every day. “The hospitals donate it to us and we donate it freely to the people overseas,” Stoeckel says.
Hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of donated supplies are packed in 40 foot shipping crates. The one slated for Armenia will head out next month.  M-M-I covering all the costs which in turn, saves lives.  “We are growing now even as we speak. We’re very excited about that and excited to see what the next chapter for Medical Ministries is going to be,” says Stoeckel.
The crate carrying the equipment and supplies for Armenia will arrive in about two months.  A team of Fresno area doctors will be using those supplies for a medical mission at seven hospitals and clinics in Armenia in the fall.
Medical Ministries International is a non-profit organization and depends on donations for its life saving work.  For more information and to donate go to:   http://www.medministries.org/
