Man stabbed in front of Family Dollar store, suspects steal his bike

FRESNO, California - A man is in the hospital tonight recovering after being stabbed.

The incident occurred at the Family Dollar store near Gettysburg and First st. around 7:30pm.

Fresno police say the victim was on his BMX bike in front of the store when a confrontation ensued between two suspects.

The victim was talking to one of the suspects in a parked car, when another suspect came out from the store and confronted him. Police say it appears the suspects were trying to take the man's bike. During the confrontation one of the suspects stabbed the victim with a large knife.

After the stabbing both suspects grabbed his bike and fled in their car.

A store employee ran over to the victim to help.

"A store employee who had just gotten to work saw the individual bleeding severely, ran over to him removed his belt from his pants and made a tourniquet to stop the bleeding," said Lt. Carl McKnight with the Fresno Police Department.

The victim was transported to the hospital and is in stable condition. Police say he suffered a severe laceration to his bicep.

Police are unsure if the fight was over his bike or over gang affiliation.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 498-STOP.
