Man robs two fast food restaurants in less than 15 minutes, police say

Two southeast Fresno restaurants were hit in back-to-back robberies Tuesday.

Lt. Charlie Chamalbide said it started at the Taco Bell at McKinnley and Chestnut, then the thief went to the McDonald’s on Kings Canyon and Phillip. He said the suspect used the same approach for both, ordering food and waiting for the register to open.

“When the clerk opens up the register he walks behind the counter, and simulates like he has a firearm and tells the employee that he has a gun,” Chamalbide said. He said no weapons were seen in either robbery.

The Taco Bell was robbed around 7:40 p.m less than 15 minutes later the McDonald’s was hit.

“We all though he worked there. That’s how slick he did it,” John Deanda a witness at the second robbery said. He said no one in the restaurant knew it was happening.

“None of us reacted because it looked normal. I’ve always said if I saw a robbery I’d help. I didn’t even know it was a robbery. He was that good. He was that slick,” Deanda said.

Chamalbide said the crime spree started yesterday — He said the same man carjacked two women at a car wash on Blackstone.

“The guy walks up, point a handgun at them and takes their car,” Chamalbide said.

Police have identified the car used in the robberies as the stolen vehicle.
A silver 2009 Toyota Camry license 6HPJ013.
