SAN LUIS OPISBO COUNTY (KSBY) – A man from the Sacramento area was killed at the Oceano Dunes on Saturday, officials confirm.

Kevin Pearce with the California State Parks said the man died after crashing a motorcycle east of the competition hill around 3:20 p.m.

According to a press release, the man was riding a motorcycle, following another rider when he went off a 30-foot dune at an unknown speed. He “impacted the ground resulting in traumatic injuries.”

He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The man was also equipped with a whip and flag.

Rangers and lifeguards responded and found an adult male, approximately 18-years-old, unconscious and without a pulse. Bystanders performed CPR.

State Park staff continued CPR for another 20 minutes. He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 3:50 p.m. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be contributing factors in this collision, Pearce stated.

He is not being identified until next of kin are notified.

This marks the sixth death to occur at the Dunes this year.

A 47-year-old man from Arizona died at the Dunes on Thursday. That incident also involved a motorcycle.
