News

MERCED, California – 51 year old Guadalupe Lopez Herrera is charged with several counts, including attempted murder of a peace officer.

Authorities said Lopez-Herrera opened fire at two deputies on September 4th in the area of Highway 33 and Eucalyptus Road in Dos Palos.

He injured one of the deputies and managed to get away.

He was caught the next day after a high speed chase from San Luis Obispo to Fresno County.

Investigators say he shot at a CHP officer before they stopped him.

Authorities were looking for him in San Luis Obispo because his wife’s family lives there.

Prior to that arrest, Lopez-Herrera had been wanted for domestic violence offenses.

His court hearing is Wednesday at 8:30a.m.

Other charges he is facing include carjacking, burglary, assault with a semi-automatic firearm and more.
