TULARE COUNTY, California (KSEE/KGPE) – A 42-year-old man was arrested in Earlimart Friday morning after he shot off rounds near schools, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies responded to calls of a man walking down an alleyway and shooting a gun in the 100 block of west Washington Avenue.
While Deputies were looking for him, nearby schools Earlimart Elementary School, Earlimart Middle School, Alila Intermediate School and Earlimart Community Day School were placed on lockdown for a short period.
Deputies were able to find the suspect walking along the east side of Highway 99 near the Washington Bridge.
Suspect, Noe Medrano, 42, was held at gunpoint until another deputy showed up and detained him. He was reportedly carrying an AR-15 with a 30-round magazine.
No one was struck by gunfire, the sheriff’s office says.
Medrano was taken into custody and booked into the Adult Pre-Trial Facility.
He faces charges of negligent discharge of a firearm, receiving stolen property, carrying a loaded firearm in a public place, being under the influence of a controlled substance while armed and being in possession of an assault weapon.
