Madera police shoot and kill knife wielding man

Madera Police shot and killed a man who came at officers with a knife.

Police got a call of a DUI driver around 10:15 Thursday night. They say the driver left Highway 99 at Cleveland and crashed into another car. Police say the people in that car were not hurt and  were safely removed from the scene.

Police say the suspected DUI driver refused to get out of his car. They say he became aggressive with the officers and produced a large knife from inside the vehicle. Police say the man refused to drop the knife, got out of thecar and charged at officers while holding the knife in front of him. Police say the shot and killed the man. His identity has not been released.

The Cleveland on and off ramps on northbound 99 are closed at this time as police conduct their investigation.
