Los Banos students give back to veterans

Los Banos ag students are giving back to local veterans.

The Los Banos High School FFA chapter is hosting a fundraiser next week to send veterans on the Central Valley Honor Flight. The trip honors men and women who have served the country with a free trip to the nation’s capitol.

Los Banos High School Seniors Ryann Vierra and Stephanie Murphy went to Washington D.C. two years ago for the National FFA Convention. While there, they met Valley veterans on board the Honor Flight and wanted to give back.

Since then, the chapter has hosted annual fundraisers to send veterans on the trip. The past two years, the group has raised $40,000.

Vierra and Murphy joined Eyewitness News This Morning to explain why they wanted to give back.

This year’s fundraiser is Wednesday, March 13 at the Los Banos D.E.S. Portuguese Hall from 4 to 7 p.m. There is a Rigatoni Drive-Thru Dinner, all proceeds go directly to Honor Flight. Call (209) 617-6608 for ticket information.
