It’s Labor Day Weekend and thousands will take to the road escaping the Valley. Since there will be an uptick in travelers, CHP will be under maximum enforcement all weekend long.
Mike Salas is the Public Information Officer for Fresno CHP. He said this is one of the busiest times for them.
“Labor day weekend is one of the most highly traveled holidays of the year,” said Salas.
Salas said if you are going towards the mountains or to the ocean you will be hitting traffic.
“You are going to come across quite a bit of traffic no matter where you are going this weekend,” said Salas. “So, plan ahead, go on the websites, and check the traffic reports.”
Many from the Valley choose to check out lakes nearby and camp out at local campgrounds.
Shaver lake campgrounds are close to being full along with Pine Flat Marina.
Keith Brockman is the owner of Pine Flat Lake Marina. He said they are getting full.
“I mean there is still some spots available,” said Brockman. “The boat rentals at Lakeview Marina, I think they still have some for Monday.”
Brockman said as the weekend goes on more people will show up and try to dock their boats.
“A lot of people will come in this afternoon and throughout the weekend,” said Brockman. “Sunday usually being the most busiest day of the three day weekend.”
Baylee Crawford comes to Pine Flat Lake frequently. She said during holiday weekends it gets busier.
“Three times as many people,” said Crawford. “Boats coming in and out of the dock all day and all night.”
But, Crawford said Pine Flat Lake is huge and can hold hundreds of boats.
“I think it’s my best kept secret,” said Crawford. “You know, a lot of the other lakes are little. This is a bigger lake so a lot more people can come here.”
