Ellen DeGeneres surprised a Fresno pediatric nurse by giving her a chance to participate in Million Dollar May where Ellen and Walmart are giving a total of $1 million to deserving people throughout the month.
Kimberly Hagin wrote to Ellen and said she is working two jobs to pay off her student loans but spends her free time volunteering at Central Valley Regional Center.
“At the end of the show one day it mentioned having Ellen help you pay off your student loan debt,” said Hagin. “I love Ellen and she is amazing so I just wanted to write in.”
On Wednesday Ellen surprised Kimberly and asked her on stage to play a game. That’s when Hagin won $25,000.
“I’m so grateful for Ellen,” said Hagin. “She is such a giving person and this is going to be a tremendous tremendous help to me.”
Hagin said she currently works at Valley Children’s Hospital on the Discovery Unit and also works at Central Valley Regional Center in the Baby Clinic.
She said she loves what she does and is so happy to go into work every single day.
“I kind of worked my way up the nursing clinical latter so I accumulated a little bit of debt but it has all been worth it,” said Hagin. “So, it will definitely not pay off the whole thing but it’s definitely going to help pay off a huge chunk.”
Kimberly said she plans on donating some of the money she won to Discovery Unit at Valley Children’s.
