Woman in wheelchair dies after being struck by driver

Local News

FRESNO, California (KSEE/KGPE) – A woman in a wheelchair died after being struck by a car in southeast Fresno Friday night.

Officers were on scene around 6:40 p.m. at McKinley and Chestnut avenues. Fresno Police Lt. Bill Dooley says a woman in her early 50s wheeled out in front of oncoming westbound traffic in a wheelchair.

Her significant other was waiting for her across the street at the canal when it happened, Dooley says.

She was conscious, but not responsive and taken to Community Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

The driver who struck her is cooperating with the investigation. Speed and DUI are not a factor in the crash, Dooley says.
