Citizens in Lemoore may have been startled by a loud, bang sound Friday afternoon.

It’s no reason to worry though, the Naval Air Station says.

“Earlier today an F-18 Super Hornet based out of NAS Lemoore inadvertently broke the sound barrier,” the station posted on Facebook.

Explaining, “The aircrew was conducting a routine training mission in one of our military airspace training areas over the city of Lemoore.”

At no point was the public exposed to any danger, and the station apologizes for any concern the noise may have caused.
