FRESNO, California (KSEE) – Six Clovis East High School students were treated for minor injuries on Wednesday after the school bus they were riding was involved in a car accident near Fowler and Belmont.
The crash happened around 7 a.m. and, in surveillance video our station obtained from a neighbor, you can see the Clovis Unified School District bus head east when a black Dodge Charger slams into the left backside of the bus. Airbags were deployed and the bus and car came to a stop.
“It took my breath away, I kind of jumped,” said Jody Stoeckle when she watched the cam video of the crash her surveillance cameras recorded. “It was chaos. It was heartbreaking.”
Neither driver was injured but several students were injured.
“Unfortunately, as a result of the collision six students on board of the seventy were transported to Vally Children’s Hospital with injuries.”
Several ambulances, officers, and construction workers went and checked on everyone involved in the accident.
“We heard a pretty loud crash,” said construction worker James Miranda. “Yeah that is your first initial reaction is to go help and make sure there isn’t going to be another accident involved.”
CHP is still investigating the cause of the crash, but says the driver will likely be at fault for unsafe speed for conditions in a construction zone and causing the crash.
