Crooks have targeted the Boys and Girls Club in Oakhurst in less than a month causing hundreds of dollars in damage and it’s not the first time.
“It’s an ongoing issue for us with people breaking into the gated area. Typically, they leave it there but in this instances they actually broke a window and gained access to the facility itself,” Mountain Area Youth Organization Board member Bob Macaulay said.
Two weeks ago, Your Central Valley reported about how someone cut through the fence and damaged the community garden.
This week, the club is facing another setback as vandals strike again, this time, breaking in and ransacking the place leaving $3,000 in damage behind.
Macaulay said this recent break-in comes at a bad time as boardmembers and students are raising money to get the club back open after it closed in June because of financial troubles.
He said the vandalism highlights the need for an organization like the Boys and Girls Club.
” It’s just sad. We see stuff like this that happen now and again. It just underscores the importance of having outlets like the Boys and Girls Club available to our youth up in Oakhurst area,” he said.
Madera County Sheriff’s Office confirms they’re investigating this recent break-in.
Now, the club is hoping the community will help them in their time in need.
