It’s taking place this weekend. The TYR pro series swim meet has been going on nationally for the past six months.
But, it’s coming to an end right here at Clovis North High School. John McGough is the head coach for the Clovis Swim Club.
“We have traveled to a lot of these across the country and our kids really enjoyed having one at home,” said McGough.
He says approximately 225 swimmers, 17 national team members and four olympians are competing this weekend.
“World championship is in about a month,” said McGough. “So, for the 17 national team members that are here that will be going on to World Championships this is their final preparation.”
Justin Wright went to Clovis West High School and went on to swim professionally.
He says it always feels good to compete back home.“We have the best pools in the entire country.
“There are some states that only have one 50 meter pool,” said Wright.
He said he made it to the Olympic trials but never on the Olympic team. He is hoping soon that will change.
“2016 trials I went again and I got 9th and this time around I am hoping with that progression that will bring me down to the top two,” said Wright. “Then I could make the team.”
This swim meet gets national publicity. Kaitlin Sandeno is an Olympic gold medalist. She will be hosting this swim meet live on USA swimming.
“I expect fans to keep progressing the next three days and there is going to be some very fast swimmers,” said Sandeno. “Exciting races that the community should come out and support.”
