Three-unit apartment fire displaces nearly a dozen Merced residents

Local News

MERCED, California (KSEE/KGPE) – Nearly a dozen Merced residents are without a home after a three-unit building caught fire Saturday morning.

It happened just after 7 a.m. at the apartment complex located at 1255 W. 8th St. The call first came in as a tent being on fire, but as crews were headed out, they noticed a plume of smoke.

Three engines, a truck and a battalion chief – about 17 crew members – arrived to the scene.

The outside fire caught a nearby three-unit building on fire, causing extensive damage.

Red Cross came out to help the residents find places to stay since the units were unlivable.

The estimated cost of damage is unknown.

No injuries were reported in the fire.
