A suspected DUI driver caused a head-on, wrong way crash in Hanford early Friday morning, according to California Highway Patrol.

Just before 3:30 a.m., a report of a two-car collision was reported to CHP in the area of westbound Highway 198, east of Houston Avenue.

Officers say Salvador Almanza, 38, was driving impaired westbound on the highway, when he began driving his Honda Civic into the eastbound lanes.

A woman, 29, who was also driving a Honda Civic with a passenger, was in the path of Almanza and couldn’t avoid him in time and struck her head-on at an unknown speed.

All three people were taken to Kaweah Delta Hospital for moderate injuries.

CHP says Almanza was determined to be impaired at the time of the collision and arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
