Surveillance video released of possible mother who abandoned her baby in Madera County

The Madera County Sheriff’s Office believes it has strong evidence leading to the identification of the mother who allegedly abandoned her baby girl Monday.

Surveillance footage was released Friday showing a car following a person walking in the road around the 4:30 time mark. The sheriff’s office believes the person seen in the video is the mother of the abandoned baby.

The infant, no more than a day old, was found in the 35000 block of Avenue 13 ½ in Madera in the early morning hours of Feb. 11.

Investigators believe the woman left the scene in a small SUV, possibly a Korean make or model, such as a Kia, Hyundai, and possibly dark blue or grey in color.

Evidence found by the sheriff’s office was submitted to the California Department of Justice forensic lab for DNA testing.

If you recognize the vehicle, female subject, or have any information that may be pertinent to the case, you are asked to contact detectives at 559-675-7770.

The condition of the baby is good, the sheriff’s office says.

The baby girl has been released from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Valley Children’s Hospital in good condition. She is in the custody of Madera County Social Services and has been placed with a foster family.
