Record-setting number of flights at Fresno Yosemite International Airport announced

Local News

Fresno’s airport just announced a bold, big, expensive expansion project.

And on Friday, airport officials released new evidence backing up that need for expansion.

They say 1.8 million passengers flew in or out of of Fresno Yosemite International in 2018. That’s 200,00 thousand more than the year before.

Airport spokesperson, Vikkie Calderon, says it shows the those in the Central Valley are realizing they don’t have to drive to Los Angeles or San Francisco in order to fly somewhere.

“We’re seeing more and more travelers to the airport every year, and people are realizing that their hometown airport can get them to where they need to be,” Calderon says.

The airport makeover has a price tag of $115 million, and is expected to be operational by 2022.
