Scheduled Mariposa County power shut off could affect 1,800 customers

Local News

MARIPOSA COUNTY, California (KSEE/KGPE) – Power will be shut off in areas of Mariposa County around noon on Wednesday for safety reasons, PG&E said.

The shut off is part of a larger outage expected to affect 800,000 PG&E customers across 34 counties.

PG&E estimates 1,800 customers in Mariposa County could be affected by the shutoff.

The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday released a list of areas that will see outages:

  • Greeley Hill
  • Lake Don Pedro Subdivision area
  • Granite Springs Rd Area
  • Lake Mc Clure
  • Merced Falls Rd Area
  • Lake Mc Swain

The wind is forecast to begin Wednesday. PG&E says it’s making the move to protect its customers.

“We understand the effects this event will have on our customers and appreciate the public’s patience as we do what is necessary to keep our communities safe and reduce the risk of wildfire,” said PG&E’s senior vice president of Electric Operations Michael Lewis.

The utility supplier says impacted customers have already been notified, although some affected by either the shutoff or equipment damaged by the wind itself may not receive a prior warning. PG&E estimates that the strong wind will last until Thursday afternoon. Once it has passed, crews still need to check lines to ensure it is safe to turn the power back on.

  • Alameda
