Police reassure safety at Madera Fair after a social media ‘threat’ rumor

Local News

MADERA, California (KSEE) – A post making the rounds on social media sparked a heavier police presence at the Madera District Fair over the weekend.

“We have received questions about a social media post that has circulated the past few days. The post was in regards to an alleged threat at the Madera Fair,” the Madera Police Deparment said on Facebook.

Those who shared the post, and the original poster, told detectives that it was based off of a rumor heard by a friend.

“With that said, we want to assure everyone that we do and have always taken the security of this event seriously, even tracking down social media post rumors,” the department said.

Along with security working the fair, there will be 20 to 30 Madera PD Officers assigned to the fair each night.

The fair runs through Aug. 8.
