Police: Man attacks two women, one pulls out a handgun and shoots at him several times

Local News

Fresno Police are investigating a shooting in a market near downtown Fresno Thursday, and a question of self defense arises.

At around 7 p.m. officers responded to a shooting at Kearney Center on Fresno and A streets, off of Kearney Boulevard, according to Lt. Bill Dooley with the Fresno Police Department.

Upon reviewing surveillance footage, Dooley says a man attempted to attack two women inside the store, when one woman pulled out a gun and shot at him several times, following him out of the store.

Dooley says it’s too soon to tell if it was an act of self defense, but the woman who shot is cooperating with the investigation. It is unknown if she has concealed weapons permit.

The man who was shot at, who is also the alleged attacker, was found a short distance later Thursday night. Dooley says he was not hit by the rounds shot at him, but he did have a cut on his hand.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Fresno Police Department at 559-621-7000.
