Bicyclist rides out of Reedley orchard and is fatally struck by a driver, CHP says

Local News

REEDLEY, California (KSEE/KGPE) – The California Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash between a car and bicyclist Sunday night in Reedley.

It happened around 6:10 p.m. at South and Buttonwillow avenues. CHP spokesperson Mike Salas says a man, 76, rode his bike out of an orchard directly into the path of a car.

He was struck as the 19-year-old driver didn’t have enough time to stop. Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies were first on scene, giving the man CPR.

The victim was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Salas says speed and/or alcohol are not a factor on the driver’s part. However, he says the bicyclist was possibly intoxicated.

The ID of the victim has not been released, but he is from Reedley.
