Pedestrian struck and killed by Amtrak train in Merced

MERCED, California (KSEE/KGPE) – A Merced man walking down train tracks Sunday morning was struck and killed by an Amtrak train, Merced Police said.

Officers received reports that a man in his 30s to 40s was struck and killed near the area of 1293 NW Bear Creek Drive around 11 a.m., Cpt. Bimley West said.

Railroad officials and officers are conducting investigations into the death.

West said no injuries were reported on the train and it was slowing down at the time of the collision as it was about to stop in Merced.
