FRESNO, California (KGPE) – An accused murderer was arrested after an 18-month investigation.
Fresno County Sheriff’s Detectives said they believe 23-year-old Edward Elizondo of Parlier shot 20-year-old Jorge Reynosa of Reedley multiple times back in March 2018.
He died in front of Quail Run Apartments.
“It shocked everybody. Everybody came on out, you know they were just sad to see such a young life lost,” said one man who did not want to be identified.
Reynosa was gunned down in the driveway outside the complex. The man said it happened right outside his window.
“When it happens that close its like a near miss, you’re like ‘Oh man.’ It just makes you hold onto your kids a little closer and make sure what they’re doing,” he said.
Detectives said they’re still looking for a motive. Elizondo was arrested a few days later on unrelated weapons charges and has since been serving a prison sentence.
“We kept investigating this case and all of a sudden the lines drew back to Elizondo, who we knew was in custody,” Tony Botti with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said.
Elizondo was set to be released from prison this month. He’s now facing new charges for Reynosa’s murder.
“To be able to bring justice to a victims family is always one of the most refreshing things we do. Especially as time goes on because I think a lot of people think that we’ve given up and we don’t,” Botti said.
Detectives said they still don’t know the whole story and are looking for information on what led up to the shooting. They’re asking anyone with information on the victim or the suspect to come forward.
