One person dead in multi-vehicle crash near Sanger

FRESNO COUNTY, California (KSEE/KGPE) – One person died Wednesday morning in a multi-vehicle collision in rural Fresno County near Sanger, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. on Belmont Avenue near the intersection with Newmark Avenue and involved three vehicles.

A maroon Ford F-150 was traveling west on Belmont Avenue and made a left turn onto Newmark Avenue in front of a white Chevrolet Silverado, Sgt. Matt Zulim said. The F-150 was hit by the Silverado on the passenger side.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene and later requested the Fresno County Coroner, the CHP said.

The passenger of the F-150 died from his injuries, Zulim said. Both drivers were taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno for non-life threatening injuries.

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified Bruce Johnson, 56, as the passenger who died in the collision. He lived in the Pine Flat Lake area.

Belmont Avenue was closed between Zediker and Academy avenues. Newmark Avenue was closed to northbound traffic at Highway 180.
