One dead, two critically injured in southeast Fresno crash

Local News

FRESNO, California – One person is dead after a crash in southeast Fresno Saturday night, and two others are in critical condition.

It happened in the intersection of Kings Canyon Road and Maple Avenue when two cars collided.

Fresno Police Lt. Tim Tietjen says two people were traveling southbound on Maple Avenue. The driver had the green light to cross into Kings Canyon Road when another driver ran a red light, crashing into them.

One person was inside the car that allegedly ran the red light, and he’s in critical condition.

The driver of the right of way car died at the scene, Tietjen says. He was identified by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office as Shawn Milton, 40. He was a father of five children, with a sixth on the way.

The alleged DUI driver who police say caused the crash is identified as Gustavo Blanco, 21. He was booked into Fresno County Jail on suspicion of felony vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI.

The crash was caught on video surveillance, and he says it will help strengthen the case when piecing together what exactly happened.
