California Highway Patrol says a Michigan man died in a crash Thursday afternoon on Highway 99 in Merced County.

At around 2 p.m. CHP received a call for a rollover, solo car crash northbound on Highway 99 and Childs Avenue.

Through an investigation, officers learned Peter Bryce Manston, 67, of Davis, was driving a 1990 Toyota truck when for unknown reasons he lost control, crashed into the center divider, causing he and his unidentified passenger to rollover.

His 67-year-old passenger from Clinton Township, Michigan was ejected from the car and was pronounced deceased at the scene. According to CHP, the victim was not using a seatbelt.

Manston had moderate injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

CHP says alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the collision.
