Merced Police Department mourns the loss of a ‘well-loved’ officer

The Merced Police Department, and surrounding law enforcement agencies, are morning the loss of a “well-loved” officer.

Det. Joe Henderson lost his long battle with brain cancer, the department announced Thursday.

“It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I bring you the news of the passing of MPD Detective Joe Henderson following a long battle with brain cancer,” said Merced Police Chief Chris Goodwin in a statement.

Adding: “Joe was an outstanding officer with a huge heart and a great passion for his job. He was well loved and respected in the community and by all who worked with him and knew him. He will be sorely missed. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family during this difficult time, and also to his MPD and City of Merced family.”
