Merced fire crews battle blaze at abandoned apartment complex

MERCED, California (KSEE/KGPE) – Fire crews in Merced battled a blaze at an abandoned two-story apartment complex Friday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to the fire at 21st and G streets around 2:40 p.m. It took crews around 30 minutes to control the fire.

The apartment building sustained significant damage. Another apartment building nearby sustained exterior damage due to the fire.

Merced Fire Department said it was the second fire in two months at the abandoned complex.

Utility crews from Pacific Gas and Electric were out to repair power lines damaged by the fire.

Four fire engines and a ladder truck responded to the blaze.
