Merced County Sheriff’s Office investigates fatal hazmat situation

The Merced County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal hazmat situation near Los Banos Thursday afternoon.

It happened at Monroe Avenue and China Camp Road. Deputy Daryl Allen says one person died, another was transported for exposure to a possible chemical spray used for agriculture. Their condition is unknown.

Six deputies and two medical personnel were transported to the hospital for exposure, and are expected to be OK, Allen says.

BREAKING NEWS:The Merced County Sheriff’s Office is currently in the area of Monroe Avenue and China Camp Road in Los Banos in regards to a possible HAZMAT incident. CAL FIRE is on-scene determining the cause of the incident and I will keep you update with information as it becomes available.
