Man who drowned at Bass Lake identified

MADERA COUNTY, California – The man who drowned at Bass Lake on Tuesday has been identified.

The man was underwater approximately 50 to 100 feet offshore, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office said.

The victim was located shortly after ‪6 p.m. Life-saving measures were performed by EMS and deputies at the scene but he died.

He was identified Tuesday as Kien Phan, 43, of Sachse, Texas.

Sheriff’s deputies said Tuesday that the circumstances of the drowning were under investigation. It did not appear alcohol or drugs were a factor in the incident.
