A man was struck by a driver near Fresno’s Tower District Sunday night, and for a short period, was pinned between the truck and pole.

The collision happened just before 9 p.m. when Fresno Police officers responded to a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian in the area of Abby Street and Olive Avenue.

The victim, a man in his 30s, was walking in the crosswalk, was struck and became pinned between the truck that hit him and a pole near the crosswalk, according to Fresno Police Lt. Bill Dooley.

The victim has serious injuries to the lower half of his body and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center. His injuries are not life threatening.

Dooley says the female driver of the truck, who was carrying three passengers, was traveling eastbound on Olive Avenue when for unknown reasons, she swerved and hit the victim.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI, Dooley confirms.
