Drowning victim identified. He was fishing with family at Millerton Lake

MILLERTON LAKE, California (KSEE/KGPE) – A 29-year-old man drowned at Millerton Lake while fishing with family, according to the California Department of Parks and Recreation.

A spokesperson said 911 calls came in around 4:30 p.m. The victim was at Hillis Beach when he started swimming to an unnamed island about a hundred yards in the water.

On the way, he went underwater. That’s when friends and family called 911.

Millerton Lake rangers arrived and started a search on a patrol boat, as well as deploying a dive team.

The victim’s body was recovered around 5:15 p.m. and was brought to shore. Cal Fire and other paramedics tried using CPR on the victim, but he was pronounced dead.

The sheriff’s office identified the victim as Alexis Rafael Mendoza of Fresno.
