A Tower District staple finally makes its return. Livingstone’s Restaurant and Pub is back and celebrated with a private event for family and staff ahead of the grand re-opening Wednesday.
They’ve all been waiting before they even stepped in line, anxious to walk through the doors again and feel the comfort of a hug. Exactly what a homecoming should be.
“We’re back,” said Livingstone’s co-owner Cynthia Green.
Green is taking it all in after a long road back to normal.
“You’re home again. We’re all home again,” said a friend of Green’s.
Drinks served up by the minute. Orders taken by familiar faces. Elements the staff at Livingstone’s had been missing for almost two years.
“Tears of joy. Hugs and laughing and really excited to be back all together,” said Danielle Carlson, a bartender at Livingstone’s.
On December 20, 2016, a fire nearly destroyed Livingstone’s causing the pub to close. Investigators determined it was arson that did extensive damage.
“Horrible you know. Who could do something like that to a business that’s been such a big part of the community,” said Rene Contreras, a barber at Ruben’s Barber Shop.
Loyalists of Livingstone’s will never forget, they sign a guest book before taking a seat. Daniel Renteria of the Tower District Marketing Committee says the area will benefit immediately.
“So this is gonna bring a little life back into this area on front street so this is gonna be a nice addition to this part of the Tower,” said Renteria.
And a reminder of what family means. Staff members say the owners led the way out of turmoil, sparking a comeback.
“Everybody has their jobs back. It was never a question of who’s coming back. We’re back,” said Carlson.
