Jennifer Newsom visits Fresno to ‘spread the word’ about tax credits for low-income families

Local News

California’s first partner, Jennifer Newsom, stopped in Fresno Saturday to promote a tax credit benefiting low-income families.

Cal EITC, or the California Earned Income Tax Credit is a cash-back credit that low-income families can get after filing taxes.

Newsom’s support comes as her husband, gov. Gavin Newsom, has proposed expanding who qualifies for the credit.

In her remarks, she encouraged others to spread the word.

“Spread the word to your families, your peers, your co-workers and your neighbors, because together we can make every person who works hard in California gets the help and support they need,” she says.

To get the tax credit, you have to file your taxes.

For tax year 2018, families earning income up to nearly $25,000 may qualify for it.
